A Few Good Scares

Paranormal Activity 2 is the follow up to last years "Blair Witch Project" of the 21st century. This sequel/semi-prequel follows pretty much the same formula of the first movie, a family is being terrorized by an unseen "something" with all the action caught on their home security cameras. With a few handy-cam moments thrown in for good measure.

The characters are less annoying than the couple from the original but still not altogether like able. But if I wanted to hear a baby cry for 90 minutes I would've stayed home and baby sat for my flatmate.

The scares are good, and I'm quite sure that the guy sitting next to me may have needed to change his underpants when he got home! However a scene using only a home movie camera came off as more of a rip off of the Blair Witch rather than a homage as intended.

What was possibly just as entertaining as the movie was the movie goers. Watching peoples reactions to a horror film is always good fun, you can always spot (or rather hear) the most frightened patrons, they're ones talking. As always the scares incite screams and jumps and are followed by nervous laughter and chatter.

Although at times this film comes across as a cheap cash in on the success of the first film, it does expand on a few moments from the original and cleverly brings back the characters as well to tie the two films together. So if want a good night out, with a few good scares then definitely give Paranormal Activity 2 a look. (Unless your too scared and spend the majority of the movie hiding behind your hands)

My final rating: 4/5
