Following my review of Paranormal Activity 2 I thought perhaps some people may need a reminder of the "unspoken rules" for cinema going.
1. Don't talk! Seriously, kind of a no-brainer here folks. With todays ticket prices nearing $20, if I wanted to listen to people talk during a movie I'd stay home and put on talk back radio while watching a dvd. Yes there is a time when talking maybe accecptable (after a scary bit durning a horror movie for example) But seriously SHUT THE F##K UP!
2. Turn off your cellphone! This maybe hard for some but it is quite distracting when every five minutes the person infront of you lights up in bright blue because they have the attention span of a fruit fly and have to text constantly. And if your phone rings do not complain when you are pelted with jaffas or any other hard candy from other patrons. On that note I should mention that it is also to permissable to throw your choc top ice cream at the person whos phone rings.
3. The seat in front of you is NOT YOUR FOOT REST! That is my seat. I paid to sit there. If you want a foor rest buy the seat in front of you so you can have one. The use of my seat may result in a broken ankle. Or your own shoe thrown at your head.
4. Arrive on time! The session times are the time the movie (and trailers) start, not the time you should arrive and try to spend five minutes finding your seats. If you have no time management skills take a course. Best practice: Try to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time. This gives you time to find your seat, get comfy and turn off your phone. Arrive earlier if you have not purchased your tickets and junk food. There is nothing worse than just getting comfortable then having to move again to let some late comer through the aisle.
5. An extention of the DON'T TALK rule: Everyone else in the cinema can also see the screen, quite well in fact! I don't need you to point out the obvious for me thank you. Yes, I can see Jason coming up behind that big boobed blonde girl. Once again, there is a reason for audio commentaries on DVDs.
So there you have it kids, 5 easy rules to follow next time you're out at the movies.
By following these rules not only will other people enjoy the movie, you will be able to too. Without others telling you to piss off or shut up!
